My Diary

After painting at the Coliseum all day I went to the bull ring to clean bottles – and then make rows of little soldiers to bury with the Emperor. The joker came in and they walked like cards. At the end of the day I opened a can of sleep and hung curtains over the paintings on the bedroom walls so they could not see.

    • Thank you. If it was portrait of someone I knew (or thought I knew – self portraits are very difficult as I have never been able to understand the sitter) the symbols would represent aspects of their personality or interests/activities or in some cases even allude to their appearance – in a friendly benign way. This work is a distillation of specifics (so to speak) from real portraits to make a generalised picture of a person. So it is really a kind of chimera; although I suppose real people are as well.

      • Ha ha, thank you so much. I am not really sure what of and I do wish it would translate into something even remotely approaching success as I always seem to be reliant on a small number of collectors. Mind you I am to blame as I can’t be bothered with all that promotional stuff – I would rather go out and weed the garden! Thank you very much again, your interest is really appreciated.

      • Your writing and painting is so incredible it’s off the meter. You love what you do and it shows so much. Don’t be concerned about commercial success. It will come because your art is too good to stay hidden.
